I have to admit I’m not really a big fan of this current trend of making live action movies from cartoon and comic book classics. To me they just don’t really work. They always seem to be a bit of a disappointment to the fans of the original format.
That said, I have to admit that the original Scooby Doo movie was refreshingly original and entertaining. This second instalment (I say instalment since I am sure there will be several more) continues that format.
Like the first film, it is funny, entertaining and manages to keep you guessing right to the end, which is a nice change for a film aimed at children.

The year is 1953.
The film… Well, it’s about learning.
It’s about love.
It’s about loss.
It’s about understanding.
It’s about seeing the world through new eyes.
But most of all, it’s about opportunity and a world of possibilities.

Well now, that was an unexpected surprise.
When I ordered the DVD I was in two minds about it, and was going to cancel it earlier in the week, except it had already been mailed out… I’m glad it was now, since it was actually rather good!
For those what don’t know… :-p
It’s a high-speed action movie, involving fast bikes, cars and yet more bikes. Sounds dull, but strangely it wasn’t.

Erm… Please don’t!
I actually liked the original film, although I don’t know of many who have actually seen it… But this was… Well it’s hard to describe… It’s identical, yet nothing like the original… Confusing I know.
The following is taken directly from the DVD case:
“Higher stakes, hotter grooves, more attitude!”
That’s the tagline on the front cover.

It has to be said I love a good legal drama, and nobody writes them as well as John Grisham!
That said, I think the films based on his books are among the few times when the story actually works better as a film than it does as a book… Mostly because of the attention to legal and procedural detail, which, unless you have an understanding of those things already, tend to make the books feel a little slow and heavy going. A film on the other hand lets you see the scene and detail without it actually mattering whether you fully understand it or not.

I like this film… There, I said it!
For some reason I don’t know of a single other person who admits to liking this film, but I do. In fact, I’ve just bought the DVD to replace the video of it. It’s just a shame that the DVD has a few frames missing on about 3 scenes, which spoils it a little.
Thanks to Kim who sent me This Link from the Guinness Book of records, I now know that this film holds the world record for the largest box office loss.

Not many people seem to have heard of this show, it was a cartoon series from late 1987 that has just been released on DVD.
I remember watching it when it was eventually shown here in England several years later, and was always surprised that it wasn’t more popular, since it had magic, mystery, adventure, swords, armour and some cool animal totems… Yet they only ever made 13 episodes, which I always thought was very disappointing.

There are some films that are so bad they are enjoyable… I’m in two minds whether this was one of them or not.
It comes across as one of those low budget thriller/horror/slasher kinds of movies, the sort where all the films in the area share the actors, the sets and the props… These are the films where the acting is more wooden than the sets and the sets have that habit of moving more than the actors do.
Having said that, I should mention that I have a somewhat perverse love of those films, and that, whilst the content of this film falls into that category, the acting wasn’t too bad and the sets/props seemed a higher calibre, so I’m guessing that this wasn’t an especially low budget film.

I’m just not sure where to start with this film.
It’s one of those that’s not all that great, yet hysterically funny at the same time.
Let me try and explain…
Being the kind of film it is, there isn’t a great deal of depth to it, but then it’s not meant to be a deep and meaningful plot.

I wasn’t going to review this film for several reasons… Firstly it’s an old film and has been out on video and DVD for some time, but mostly because, as entertaining as it is, it’s not really anything outstanding.
But after re-watching it, I changed my mind.
It’s too entertaining to not mention, not to mention the soundtrack that you can’t help but sing along to…
“jump, magic jump,
jump magic, jump
put that magic jump on me
Slap that baby, make him freak…”
