Christmas time, mistletoe and whine…

12/20/2006

Looks like my whole “Bah Humbug” mentality to this time of year is starting to crumble as usual…

*sigh*

I can’t help it, I don’t want to like it, and there’s a whole host of things about it that I don’t like, but put me in front of the TV with a really awful made-for-TV christmas movie, and I’m bawling my eyes out like a baby.

Truth be told I think I have masochistic tendencies when it comes to christmas, I like the concept of the season, but that’s the part that makes me sad and depressed too.

Following on from yesterdays entry, and it being Rememberance Sunday… This says it better than I can (click the button to play the track)

For anybody wondering, it’s called “Green Fields of France” by The Fureys

Far from the battlefield, far from war…

November 11th…

Remembrance day…

A time to see all the old war veterans dust off their finest and go to memorial services.

Services that get smaller and smaller each year as the veterans die off, little by little, one by one.

Whilst I disagree with war, on sheer principle, I also think it’s right that they are remembered, the struggles they faced, the horror they saw and the friends they lost.

Remembering them is the least we can do!

So it looks like the airports are all grinding to a halt with the impending terrorist attack… From what I can gather America is in a similar position.

The airports are asking anyone that doesn’t have to travel, not to.

Places in Europe are refusing to allow any flights to or from England… Maybe American flights too, not sure about that one.

You have to wonder what makes these people think that blowing people and things up is going to help their cause in any way.

Fit but my gosh, don’t you know it…

While I was out today I saw a guy going into the gym.

There he was in his vest showing off his toned physique.

Gym bag in one hand…

Cigarette in the other.

You have to admire the irony.

My oh my…

A word to the wise…

Never try to go to the toilet whilst standing on one leg when you’re tired.

If you do, you come very close to falling in

If you’re gone, maybe its time to come home…

Have you noticed; things only seem to break down when you need them?

Wither that, or when they break, you realise just how much you do rely on them. I haven’t quite figured out which way around it is.

It’s still a right pain when it happens though.

Take last night for example; I was sat upstairs at about 6pm last night thinking how cold it was getting. I didn’t bother giving it much more thought than that though; it’s been really cold the past couple of weeks anyway.

There’s one good thing about spending days reinstalling a computer.

You get to start from scratch, put the latest of everything on, clear out all the junk and end up with a nice speedy machine, it’s a bit like getting a new car, you know you’ll wear it in again eventually, but there’s still something nice about a nice clean, fresh, up to the minute piece of machinery.

Of course there’s a downside too, particularly if you’re a horder like me…

Grief

11/07/2004

I haven’t been profound for a while… Come to think of it I haven’t really been anything for a while… What with Bonnie, and the lack of a working laptop, I’ve been a bit out of the loop… But that’s a tale for another entry.

It could also be part of the problem, since I’ve had nothing to take my mind off things, which has given me far more time to wallow than can possibly be healthy

Time to get the rest of the grief out of my system so I can move on to other things.

I’ve come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as grief.

There’s a barbarian, in the back of my car (oh no)…

It appears we are going to be living in a police state before long.

The latest idea is for car insurance to be charged on an individual basis. Currently it’s just a trial, but it would appear that everyone (everyone except most of the public) is all for it.

The plan is to attach a tracker to everyone’s car. This will relay information back to the insurance company. They will then keep a record of where you drive, what roads you use, what times of day you use the car and the number of miles you drive.
