Looks like the server my journal is on bit the bullet again last night.

Just like last time, I was trying to upload some photos, and the whole server seemed to get stuck in a perpetual loop.

My web hostess is kind enough not to blame me, but I’m the one who keeps harping on about needing Image::Magick updated so I can use images in my journal.

Poor girl, I must give her such a headache…

As mentioned yesterday, I have a weakness for a good musical, so I had high hopes for this film. It’s been a long time since there’s been any new musicals made as a movie, and this one has supposedly given a whole new generation the urge to learn to sing and dance and perform.

I have to say though, as much as I was looking forward to it, I ended up being pretty disappointed. It’s not that it was awful, because it actually wasn’t, it just wasn’t all that good either…

I woke up this morning with a sudden hankering to go to London and see a show.

It’s my own silly fault I guess, this is what happens when I spend too long watching the variety shows on TV, along with the usual holiday musicals and the reruns of pantomimes…

Still, it would have been nice, it’s a long time since I went to an actual theatre and saw a show. The last one was Buddy’s Story, which would have been back in about 1994.

I really want to go and see Wicked and Avenue Q.

Where do they all come from?

People must eat all the other weeks of the year, yet the population seems to triple at this time of year.

The grocery stores have been opening 24-hours for the past couple of weeks, and yet they’re still so busy that they can’t stack the shelves as fast as the customers are stripping them.

Well I think that’s me done for the year. Two hospital trips in two days, I’m pretty much beat for the next month.

Still it had to be done.

It also reminded me what it is I dislike most about hospitals…

No matter which door you use, and which department you’re supposed to be going to, it’s always the furthest point from the entrance you’ve found. Then the maps they send you just make matters worse, as do the internal signs they have about the place.

Looks like my whole “Bah Humbug” mentality to this time of year is starting to crumble as usual…

*sigh*

I can’t help it, I don’t want to like it, and there’s a whole host of things about it that I don’t like, but put me in front of the TV with a really awful made-for-TV christmas movie, and I’m bawling my eyes out like a baby.

Truth be told I think I have masochistic tendencies when it comes to christmas, I like the concept of the season, but that’s the part that makes me sad and depressed too.

Well it’s about that time of year again…

The time everyone drags out the tackiest lights they can find and triple their annual electricity bill in one month, trying to out-do their neighbours as they all vie for attention.

Plus there’s all the excesses on food and alcohol, and the exorbitant debt people get themselves into buying gifts, after they work out who spent what last year, so they can either out-do them this year, or at the very least spend the equivalent…

No matter what your thoughts on the seasonal or religious aspects of the holiday… It’s all got a bit petty and mercenary for my tastes.

Rumour has it that Mariah Carey is suing, or at least threatening to sue a porn-star called Mary Carey.

Apparently Mary is trying to get a trademark on her name, and Mariah doesn’t want it to happen because the similar sounding name will confuse her supporters.

Maybe it’s just me, but if she thinks her fans will have a hard time telling the difference between a Mariah Carey music video and a Mary Carey porn video, I’d say she has bigger things to worry about than the fact their names sound similar!

I was just thinking after yesterdays entry (and reading Scott’s other entry) and it made me think of the time I went to work for the Chronicle, which is a very popular and well known regional newspaper.

It was one of those send a CV and covering letter deals, which I did. I like those, it’s less effort than filling in all those mindless application forms, and I’m almost always asked in for an interview after they get my CV, and then offered the job.

I have a far higher success rate from my CV (about 95%) than from applications (about 20%).

But I digress… As usual…
