And I miss you, like the deserts miss the rain

Alright, so that last entry may have been a tad irritable… But I did warn you that I get cranky when I’m tired ![]()
I’m writing this on the big computer, it’s supposed to be a server for a home network… And you know, one of these days I might even get around to setting it up as a server ![]()
Fortunately I haven’t yet, otherwise I’d have no internet :-(( My laptop died… I’m trying to get at my files and back tem up as we speak… Or is that as I type… Whatever :-p
The upshot is, I have no email access, no files, no bookmarks, no messenger, no nothing… I don’t even have a spell checker to check my journal entry! ![]()
Everything is on the laptop and I can’t use it :noose:
On the plus side, I’ve known for a couple of weeks that it’s about time for it’s two monthly format and reinstall… With that in mind I downloaded yet another version of Linux to try… I’m getting so sick of having to spend 3 dyas every 2-3 months formatting and reinstalling, then tweaking all the options and settings back to the way I want them. All I need is to find a version of Linux that can do everything I want, then the windows discs are going to be the guests of honour at a disc burning ceremony :wwatching:
38 minutes left to backup, then I can try the new linux… I’ve tried about 5 already, and I’ve liked all of them, and between them they do everything I want, but I haven’t found one that can do it all and auto install all my hardware without me having to start hunting for drivers and figuring out how to install them…

just out of curiousity what are you looking at getting it to do? I’m pretty hooked up if there is a way I know someone that knows how or they do lol

blulady - Yep, you can’t beet a good disc burning party, especially when they’re microsoft discs

Adam - Well I want one that’s as easy to install as windows, but without the bugs, has total compatability with everything, but without me having to download extra drivers, one that does everything I want it to do, without me having to ask it… One that would bring me breakfast in bed would be nice too…
But I’d settle for one that will easily install on a Sony Vaio, has a graphic instalation system (can’t get used to a text only interface, too much coding *shudders*) will pick up all the built in hardware, and my extras, like wireless network card, disk-keys, external hard drives, scanner, printers, digital cameras, webcams, MP3 player, wireless mouse and keyboard and a winmodem. If I can find one that does all that, I’ll be thrilled
