Birds flyin’ high you know how I feel, sun in the sky you know how I feel…
04/28/2004
Well today went better than expected. Work paid for a taxi to take me in, which was good, although the taxi ride was an experience in itself, a white knuckle, death defying high speed car chase, followed by a driver with no change smaller than a £20… *raises eyebrow* Uh huh…! Can we say “Con”?
But that’s for the next entry.
I actually had fun. It was nice to see everybody again, it’s been about 10 months since I saw them all last, I’m only sorry that it was such a quiet day so there were a lot of people not on the rota to work today who I didn’t get to see and catch up with.
But all in all, I’m glad I went.
I was up in the office for about an hour and a half, going through a few computer glitches, website designs etc. I didn’t get paid for it, but since it got me out of the house, they paid my taxi and I spent more time chatting than working, I’m not complaining. Let’s face it, this is my first social outing in 10 months!
I just don’t know how I cope with the excitement…! :-p
The only down side is that somehow I managed to get talked into making a few more alterations to the website, and adding some server software, again unpaid. But to be honest, I’m quite looking forward to not only getting to fiddle with some new software, but just the fact that I have something to do while I sit here, so I can live without the cash quite happily… This time…!
I got to have a few long chats with some of the staff, which was great. One person is getting ready to start his own business… A restaurant/cafe of some kind, and asked me if I’d be willing to give him some advice, pointers, help and use my computer skills to set up a computer, website, flyers, leaflets etc…
Not sure if anything will come of it, but it should be fun if it gets that far. The only problem is, he’s a great guy… But has no clue about business… Last time he was going to do this, he decided what he wanted to do, saw a building he liked and went to the bank to get a loan etc to get started… No business plan, no research, no checking possible demand or competition, nothing… Just the idea and a building he liked… Obviously the bank turned him down. I’m just hoping he has learnt and will try and think everything out fully this time… But I know him well enough to know that it’s pretty unlikely, he just has no head for business…
Another guy there has just started himself off in his own business in bar management & advertising. He’s training bar staff, in bar and cocktail work, suggesting and designing the menus and putting together a basic website for them. He’s been going 8 weeks and already got 7 jobs for fees of just over £2000.
Not bad… Eh… Need any help? It would appear I now have lots of free time… ![]()
Then I was off.
Mind, considering my taxi fare was paid, so I should have just had to pay one lot of bus fare home… It worked out a pretty expensive day. But then by the time I went to subways for a sandwich and then went totally overboard and had half a sugar-free polo for desert (what…? I have to maintain my figure…!) Then rediscovered the joys of DVD sales… (Yes it really is like riding a bike… two minutes in and it was like I’d never been away…) Well lets just say it soon builds up, but then when you buy DVD’s 7 at a time…
*blushes*
But I was good… I got some good bargains, and I could have been much worse! There was a guy in one shop just walking down the racks grabbing DVD’s and videos like they were going out of fashion. He had so many he had to take them to the desk and come back to get the rest… I thought they must have been giving them away! I wouldn’t care, from what I could see, most of the ones he got were cheaper in some of the other shops I had already been in!
I wanted to get Kill Bill, only it was too expensive, and I wanted to get Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal, but I was running short of cash and trying to be good… I have books on order that need paying for with the rest of that money…!
*giggles evilly*
That’s the trouble with some people… Too impatient to look around for the best price!
Well after that it was off to the bus and home to collapse in a heap and eat an entire tub of Ben and Jerry’s to recover… It didn’t cure me, but it sure did help a lot :-p
And even better news… I spoke to the specialist today. The treatment that he had found in America is available over here, only it will cost £400 a month (about $680) and would need a minimum of 4-6 months, but realistically more like 10-12 months.
*gasps*
But he has found another alternative. A lot like the stuff I was on, only this one doesn’t have the die-off effect, so I should be able to take it without getting strange, acting like I’m on drugs, hallucinating, flashing passers-by making rude and suggestive comments to pot plants and generally flirting with anything in my live of vision…
That’s got to be a good thing…!
I should be hearing by the end of the week, or the beginning of next week just what is involved, how much it will cost and when I can start it!

Hey busy guy you are!
That’s encouraging news on your treatment. I hope that works out for you.
