The Smurf Report: Britannia High

11/06/2008

Rating: ★★★☆☆

There’s been a terrific amount of hype about this new show, “Britannia High”.  They spent weeks advertising it at every available opportunity, but apparently it’s not doing anywhere near as well as they had hoped.  The thing that says it all, at least to me, is the amount of money and time they have spent on advertising and hype, yet the main discussion on-line seems to be regarding the new hairstyle sported by Mitch Hewer, one of the lead cast members…

The show is set in a Performing Arts School (called Britannia High, shockingly), so there’s lots of singing and dancing, so it’s a bit like Fame of the Noughties… Which can’t be a bad thing, Fame was incredibly popular back when it came out.

I think this is where the problem lies…

It appears that they want it to be totally different to Fame and High School Musical, but it seems to fall somewhere between the two.  The writing is more High School Musical, but the overall feel and concept is more Fame… But of course, Fame did it first, did it bigger, and ultimately did it better, which seems to be the crux of the problem.

If we took a holiday…

I must be looking better than I thought.

I went to the grocery store yesterday after a trip to the Doctors with both parents… It felt like a family outing…

The woman on the checkout asked if we’d had a good day.

It’s half term for the schools this week, and it would seem she obviously thought we’d had a day out for the family while I was off school.

So it seems it’s that time of year again…

Yep that’s right, it’s time for another barrage of weeping, wailing, begging and sob stories, collectively known as the X-Factor, Britain’s equivalent of American Idol for those that don’t know.

For anyone who doesn’t know, the X-Factor has 4 judges and 4 categories, over 25’s groups, under 25 boys and and under 25 girls.  After they narrow it down at boot camp, each judge gets a category to mentor.

They’re currently showing the final episode before the live shows were we get to see who gets through, and I’ve just figured out what’s missing.

They need a fifth judge

Yes, it’s true, there really is life after internet… One of these days I might even get to take part in it :-D

There seems to be a general blogging strike going on the past few months.  Hardly anybody seems to be writing much of anything, and I have to say I’ve been one of them.  I don’t know if it’s the weather, the time of year, or just one of those things…

But whatever it is I’ve just had no great urge to write anything, and there’s been nothing interesting going on to spark any interest.

Well I feel like a right numpty this morning.

I was paddling around the various community sites yesterday when a profile popped up, joined 22nd August, looking to meet new people and make new friends…

I looked, and not even a welcome comment, so being nice I thought I’d say hi and welcome.

Shut Up, Just Shut Up Shut Up…

I swear four years between Olympics just isn’t enough.

For the last month or so every time you turned on the television there was something about them on, first the torch run, then the athletes being flown over, then the event themselves.  It’s been finished three days, yet still they’re bleating on about them like something stupendous has just happened.

Maybe I’m just getting old, crabby and cynical, but I truly don’t get it.

I saw a baby Sparrowhawk earlier.

I’d never even seen an adult one until last year, now we have fairly regular visits.

There was a bit of hopping around in the tree in the garden, and I thought I saw a curved beak in there.  A few minutes later we saw an adult Sparrowhawk leaping out of the tree and flying off.

Then a second or two later there’s a little mini Sparrowhawk hopping out of the tree and onto the fence to look into the garden, then it too flew off.

I’d swear it was being shown around.

Now here’s where you get your fresh meat…

And here’s the bread and milk aisle…

Naturally they were here and gone before I had a chance to get the camera to take a photo.

It seems I’m bag hunting again…

I don’t know what it is with me and bags, but I can never seem to find the right bag for my needs.

Part of the problem is I’ve never quite worked out how to travel light, so even if I didn’t mind stuffing all my junk in my pockets (which I hate) there’s just more junk than the pockets have a hope of holding, so I require a bag.

A fact I should really probably have posted weeks ago, you know, straight after it happened… Still better late than never:mrgreen:

It seems the nose job went well.  Daddy Dearest arrived home yesterday.

We were expecting him to call to say he was on his way around lunch time, mid morning at the earliest…

But no, 7am the phone rings to say he’s on his way.

What kind of a time is that to be kicking sick people out of a hospital?
