Selective Insurance
05/22/2003
I was reading in the free paper today that apparently insurance companies are using information from marketing and credit agencies to find out more about potential customers. They are then using this information to increase the insurance premiums.
So according to the article, if you are a divorced, overweight smoker, driving is going to be very expensive.
But get this, the reason why smoking or obesity will put the premium up on CAR insurance? Because it’s concidered “a lack of discipline which could be a sign of a poor driver.”
Maybe it’s me, but I don’t see what smoking, weight or divorce has to do with a persons ability to drive…
To adapt a phrase from Titan AE:
If this is the future of humanity…
I weep for the species!

It certainly is.
But you know what, given these new rules, I’m single (never married) not over-weight have never smoked and don’t drink. So how come my insurance isn’t any lower?
