Another day another…pound??
05/20/2003
Well another joyous day at work today. I had to go in to sort out the network and broadband. But I finally made some progress. We (technical support and myself) managed to get the broadband set-up and running, but it didn’t like the network. So when I went home last night we had a router box that wouldn’t talk to the network access point, and network adapter that didn’t like the router, the router wouldn’t talk to the network unless it went through a third party and the network was pointedly ignoring the router. (Ok I now feel like I’m back in high school!)
But after several more hours in conference calls, it finally appears we’ve got it sussed. The router that came with the installation won’t translate for the network, the network will translate for the router, but can’t understand the reply, and the backup router will only work on a single system line, because it gets confused by multiple IP addresses and doesn’t know whom it is translating for. So about 8 hours of problem came down to two languages and no translator. So the secondary router is being sent home, a new translation router that can translate for several addresses is in transit and I should have everyone talking to each other by Friday. Its days like these where I wonder if working is actually WORTH all the trouble.
